Does Your Child Struggle with Play?

As play is the first language of a child, we often assume that it’s easy for them to do, but for children whose lives have been punctuated by loss, abuse, and neglect, playing and interacting with others can be a scary minefield. They often find it difficult to be comfortable in a parent/child relationship and may be described as having Attachment issues. These difficulties can affect their emotional and cognitive development.

It’s important for carers and parents to help their children to develop confidence and trust within the relationship so they have the necessary skills to develop emotionally and socially in a healthy manner. This is possible with Relationship-Based Play (RBP).

How RBP Can Benefit Your Adopted Child

This approach encourages parents to spend 20-minutes, up to three times a week with their child participating in Child-led play, and this helps to:

  • Boost their self-esteem
  • Develop emotional and cognitive skills
  • Feel calm, safe, and comforted
  • Establish trust with you, and those around them
  • Help them to have successful relationships with adults and other children
  • Learning that it is safe to play
  • Learning that engaging with adults and other children can be joyful

Learn From the Comfort of Your Home

With this RBP course, you can learn how to improve your relationship with your adopted child and improve their confidence without leaving home.

  • 8 online sessions delivered live through Zoom.
  • Each session will last around 30-40 minutes.
  • You can also sign up for online peer support sessions facilitated by Yoni and Keeley for an additional fee.
  • Workbook to support the training. This can be used during and after the course.

You will be expected to commit to two or three 20-30 minute play sessions per week during the later stages of the course.
